What is the match rate for urologists? ›

The match rate for 2021-2023 was 71.3%, compared to 71.8% in the 15 years prior. The match rate of 66% in 2022 was the lowest since 64% in 2014 and higher than the nadir of 61% in 2008.

How hard is it to match into urology? The urology match is a very challenging undertaking, even for American graduates. The average true match rate is somewhere around 60%. For IMGs, this number is drastically lower.

Results: In total 131 of 145 programs were identified, and 1605 matched applicants spanning the 2017 to 2021 match cycles. The mean and median total publications were 2.44 and 1, respectively, and 2.17 and 1 when excluding case reports.

What Step scores do I need for successful match into Urology? Recent NRMP data suggest that a Step I score for Urology candidates should be 240 or higher. Step II scores should be 245-250 or higher.

Cities with the highest salaries for urologists are Grand Forks, North Dakota; Edmonds, Washington; and Denver. According to the American Urological Association (AUA), 53 percent of urologists work in a urology private practice.

Due to this timing, the urology match is commonly referred to as an "early" match. The early match allows students who do not match with a urology training program to enter the NRMP match for alternatives without having to wait a full year until the next match takes place.

You may be able to command a higher salary due to a demand for this type of physician specialist. There is high demand for urologists due to an aging population, not enough new urologists and an aging workforce in the urology specialty.

Also of note, urology is considered “outside the match.” This means that you will apply through the AUA and not through NRMP. You also match earlier to urology (in February). If you dual apply and do not match urology, you could then rank the non-urology programs that you interviewed at and enter the NRMP match.

Can you couples match urology? ›

Couples match is not available for military, ophthalmology, or urology matches. By participating in the couples match, an applicant chooses to create a rank list with another applicant with the goal to match in one of the combinations that they have selected as a couple.

Based on this data, urology is one of the most competitive specialties. Matching into urology is even harder for international medical graduate and osteopathic applicants.

The 25th percentile is around 232, while the 75th percentile is near 256. These percentiles mean that if you score at or below 232, you're in the bottom 1/4 of test takers, while if you score at or above 256, you're in the top 1/4.

What is a good USMLE Step 2 CK Score? A good USMLE Step 2 CK score is between 240 and 260. However, what qualifies as a “good” score ultimately depends on the residency program you are applying to. If you want to match to your first-choice program, you should aim for a score at or above 256.

A score of 230 to 245 is a good score, and will now allow one to aim for more competitive specialities. If you are able to pair this raw score with strong clinical grades and Step 2 performances – and additionally with research undertaken – then you should see competitive programs as well within reach.

Annually, the Urology Residency Match consists of approximately 500 highly competitive applicants that apply for nearly 385 positions that are virtually filled.
