Review by Aleheez ★★★★
Araki's original manga work of the same title was an official partnership with the Louvre itself to accompany an exhibit of his work, and it's masterful stuff. Gorgeous art and very creative as expected from him. This film adaptation was originally supposed to be Episode 3 of the 3rd season of the live action Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe drama. They went the extra mile and made it a full feature, shot on location in France, and it's all the better for it.
Like the other episodes the film adapts the original story very well in context to what this show has already set up, budget limitations and all. Performances are nice, it looks great, and it's a mystery that keeps…

Несмотря на бездарную режиссуру и явную отсебятину в сценарии - оригинальная биззарность Араки-сана все равно прослеживается и ебет в конце.

I blacked out. I don't remember anything. I felt every possible human emotion while watching it. Nothing I write about it can make even the tiniest sense or sound anything but biased, and yet I think I speak for everyone when I say that Issei Takahashi is just an exceptional, refined actor.
Earlier today, while talking to a friend, I said that even though I like what I've seen of the original Rohan, Issei's feels different. He seems real. And I think his performance in this sets it in stone for me. During the third act, I forgot how to think and breathe... he took me away. I was there.
I'll revisit it soon and give a more fleshed-out review about the other aspects that made this work so well for me, but for now, take me being a suck-up.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure went from something I was a huge fan of as a teen to something I sort of roll my eyes at as I realized Hirohiko Araki doesn't seem to do more than gesture at interesting longform drama in his storytelling. What I find Araki undeniably great at though, is wildly creative shortform horror stories like Thus Spoke Rohan. The live action version in particular heightens a lot of the emotion and drama, making it easily my favorite thing to come out of the Jojo franchise (well, aside from Jolyne). While this film I think undercuts itself with too much exposition that ruins mystery at the end, up till that point the art history nerd in me was absolutely enthralled by seeing Rohan and Izumi fall down a twisted rabbit hole at the Louvre. I ship them so hard.

It’s not unrealistic because there’s numerous ghosts and spirit hauntings it’s unrealistic because there’s no one dressed as Batman around despite the fact they’re in France
