This raspberry co*cktail is made with vodka, Chambord (raspberry liqueur), and ginger beer. I also added dry ice to make it a fun "love potion" co*cktail for Valentine's Day! Dry ice can be a little intimidating to work with, but I've included all my tips below!
ingredient notes
- Vodka- My favorite plain vodka for co*cktails is Titos but you can use whatever you have on hand!
- Chambord- Chambord is a rich, sweet raspberry liqueur that adds the most amazing flavor to co*cktails!
- Ginger Beer- Ginger beer is one of my favorite things to add to co*cktails because I just love the slight spicy notes! But you could also top this off with club soda if you prefer!
How to Work with Dry Ice
So what even is dry ice? Dry ice looks like regular ice, but is actually solid carbon dioxide, and it’s super cold. When dry ice "melts" it skips the liquid state and turns directly into gas.
Most large grocery stores (including places like Walmart) carry dry ice, you just need to ask customer service to get it for you. Be sure to pick up the dry ice no more than a few hours before you want to use it!
Dry Ice Storage & Handling
- Keep dry ice in a Styrofoam or insulated cooler with the lid ajar to allow air flow, not in your freezer or refrigerator.
- Don't leave dry ice in an enclosed space (like a car or small room) because it needs good ventilation so that the CO2 levels don't build up.
- Keep dry ice out of reach of any children or pets.
- Don’t set your dry ice directly on your counter top, a heavy duty baking sheet works well.
- Do not touch dry ice with bare hands, it’s way too cold and will cause frostbite. Use heavy duty work gloves to handle and tongs to put cubes into drinks.
- To dispose of dry ice, let it evaporate in a well ventilated area. Don't flush it, put it in the trash, or leave it outside where animals can come in contact with it. I put mine on my back porch in a cooler with the lid ajar to let it fully evaporate.
DO NOT DRINK DRY ICE!!!
Dry ice is safe to use in co*cktails, it will not alter the flavor in any way. But take extra precaution not to ingest it or touch it in any way. Wait until the dry ice has fully evaporated before drinking your co*cktail (about 5-10 minutes)!
Since dry ice doesn’t melt into liquid, you can keep adding more as needed to get that fun smoky effect and it will not dilute your recipe.
You can also make this love potion co*cktail without the dry ice, if you don't want to deal with the hassle (totally fair), but it does make the co*cktails super exciting!
